Discusses Boosting Fertility & Getting Pregnant

There are several complementary ways to boost fertility that go beyond the laboratory, and at the West Coast Women’s Reproductive Center we believe in supporting your fertility from every possible angle.

How To Your Boost Fertility

Healthy Diet

To begin, it’s vital for women focused on getting pregnant to do their very best to eat a healthy diet. We recommend that patients consume a plant-based diet, ideally, a Mediterranean-style diet, which includes many colorful fruits and vegetables, as well as healthy fats and a limited amount of poultry, fish, and eggs. It’s best to consume 5-9 servings of plants daily, along with a handful of nuts. Taking prenatal vitamins prior to conception decreases birth defects such as cardiac defects and neural tube defects (the precursor to the embryo’s central nervous system).

Fertility Supplements

Several companies compile fertility supplements that have vitamins and minerals above and beyond those in a typical prenatal vitamin, which may possibly improve chances of conception. Taking COQ10 at 600 mg/day has been touted to help the mitochondria of the cell. (Some brands are better absorbed than others.) Taking DHEA at 25 mg three times per day has been shown to increase the egg response in older ovaries. Growth hormones can also be injected during IVF cycles to improve egg quality before ovulation.

Stress Reduction

Stress reduction has also been found to be a natural fertility booster. Incorporating mind-body techniques such as meditation, yoga, reflexology, essential oils and massage therapy can be beneficial to fertility. Psychotherapy, group therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques can help to decrease stress and anxiety. Knitting, painting, and other crafting can also help with relaxation and reduction of anxiety. Additionally, many studies (but not all) have shown an improvement in fertility outcomes when acupuncture is used in conjunction with Western medicine.

Fertility Therapies
