How IUI Works
IUI involves taking a collection of semen, separating the sperm from the semen, concentrating and activating the moving sperm, and then placing a small amount of the fastest swimming sperm into the uterus when the woman is ovulating.
IUI Success Rates
To increase pregnancy rates, a woman undergoing IUI is often given fertility medications to help her ovaries make additional eggs. If the sperm is abnormal in count or motility, IUI success rates are quoted as 5-10% when ovarian stimulation is used with IUI. The IUI success rate for unexplained infertility is 8-15% per month.
Who Should Consider IUI
IUI is ideal for couples with unexplained Infertility, mild male factor infertility as well as couples who have trouble with intercourse, single mothers who would like to have a baby, and lesbian couples who are looking to conceive. IUI is a simple and economical process that can be completed in the office with no recovery time, making this an ideal option to help increase some patients’ chances of successfully.
